2. To whom is this privacy statement addressed?

This privacy statement applies to all our current and former members, participants in activities, persons who show or showed an interest in our activities, services or products, customers and prospects, and suppliers.

3. For what purposes do we process which personal data?

Your personal data is processed for the following purposes and on the following legal grounds:

  • Obtaining government funding. We pass on your membership on the legal basis of complying with our legal obligations and to assist clients in the context of our recognition as an assistance organisation.
  • Being able to participate in the activities of Rescate Catopolis, with the execution of an agreement, our legitimate interest or your consent as legal grounds. Rescate Catopolis is a non-profit organisation: we raise awareness, we respond to current events, we set up experimental collaborations to reach as many people as possible, we recruit people with a heart for animals, inspire volunteers and raise funds.
  • Handling adoption applications and messages you send us via the forms on this website or by email, on the basis of your request (steps prior to an agreement) and our legitimate interest in finding a suitable home for every cat.
  • Sending newsletters and invitations by post, email and social media, with our legitimate interest as the legal basis.
  • Being able to deliver tax certificates after donations received, on the legal basis of meeting our legal obligations.

Insofar as the processing of personal data is based on consent, you always have the right to withdraw the consent given.

For the above purposes, we may request the following personal data from you:

  • Identification and contact information: surname, first name, address and place of residence, email address, telephone or mobile number, …
  • Personal characteristics: gender, date of birth, place of birth, nationality, interests.
  • For an adoption application: information about your home, your family, your work and free time, your experience with cats and your other animals.

We only process personal data of minors (persons under the age of 16) if written permission has been given by the parent or legal representative.

We only collect personal data that you communicate to us yourself in various ways (including registration forms, adoption and contact forms, donation forms, and personal, telephone or email contact). Rescate Catopolis can also collect and process data via Facebook.

4. Do you have to provide your data?

If applicable, the stated information must be provided to become a member, to participate in activities of Rescate Catopolis or to apply for an adoption.

5. Provision of personal data to third parties – processors

We may provide the data you provide to us to third parties if this is necessary for the purposes described above. For example, we use third parties (external service providers) for purely administrative processing:

  • storing and processing data in the cloud (via a cloud service provider);
  • taking care of the internet environment (web hosting, mail hosting, …);
  • providing IT infrastructure (including IT network, servers, …);
  • insuring our members, participants and volunteers;
  • providing (and distributing) newsletters, invitations and notifications of events.

We never pass on personal data to external service providers (processors) with whom we have not concluded a processing agreement.

6. Retention period

Rescate Catopolis does not store personal data longer than necessary to achieve the purpose for which it was provided, taking into account the period that is necessary to comply with legal requirements (including in the field of accounting). Retention periods may differ per purpose.

7. Data security

We have taken appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, use, loss or disclosure. For example, we have taken the following measures:

  • All persons who can take note of your data on behalf of Rescate Catopolis are bound to maintain their confidentiality.
  • We have a username and password policy on all our systems.
  • We use a virus scanner and update it systematically and in a timely manner, and we have installed a firewall.
  • We systematically make backups of the personal data in order to be able to restore it in the event of physical or technical incidents.

8. Your rights over your data

  • You have the right to inspect and copy the personal data relating to you.
  • You have the right to correction and addition if your data is incorrect or incomplete.
  • You have the right to erasure of the personal data that we have received from you and which are no longer strictly necessary for the purposes for which they were processed. We do reserve the right to determine whether your request is justified. Erasing your data may end your membership.
  • You have the right to restrict the processing: if you object to the processing of certain data, you can ask us to stop this processing.
  • You can also object to the way in which certain personal data of yours are processed. For example, you have the right to object to the use of your personal data for direct marketing purposes (via the unsubscribe options in emails).
  • You have the right to have the data you provided transferred by us to yourself or, on your instructions, directly to another party.

If you do not want us to process your data, it is sufficient to inform us via info@catopolis.org. Via that address you can also always ask what data we process about you, correct it, have it erased or ask to transfer it.

To prevent misuse, we may ask you to identify yourself before we comply with your request. To check your identity, we ask you to add a copy of the front of your identity card to your request. We strongly recommend that you make your passport photo invisible and state that it is a copy.

No category of persons is subject to any form of automated decision-making or profiling.

9. Complaints

If you have a complaint about the processing of your personal data or about the exercise of your rights, we ask you to contact us directly. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, www.aepd.es).

10. This website, forms and cookies

This website does not use cookies for statistics, advertising or tracking, and does not show third-party content such as social media widgets.

When you send us a message or an adoption application via a form on this website, your answers are forwarded to us by email (info@catopolis.org). The website itself does not store them. The website is hosted by Cloudflare, which also delivers these emails.

To protect our forms against spam, we use Cloudflare Turnstile. It checks whether a form is filled in by a person and not by a bot. For that purpose, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address and information about your browser and device. Turnstile does not place cookies on this website. More information: the privacy policy of Cloudflare.

11. Changes to our privacy statement

Rescate Catopolis can always adjust its privacy statement. The last change was made on 19 September 2026.
